Beachin'

The beach is just a short walk away, but we wouldn’t think of sending you there unprepared. We equip you with beach towels, folding chairs, umbrellas, ice chests and snorkeling gear. On your return, rinse off the sand at the outdoor shower.

Snorkeling

Wade in and kick out to the reef offshore, or spend the afternoon at Coral de los Frailes, a special spot just a short drive away. Boat tours also available. Snorkeling gear available at the house. Light wetsuits recommended for winter/spring.

Scuba

Large schools of big fish are the draw here. If you’re lucky, you may see Whale Sharks or Giant Manta Rays. Several dive outfitters to choose from. Advanced reservations advised. Contact us for recommendations.

Bird, Whale & Wildlife Watching

The open vegetation makes birding a breeze—great viewing right around the house, including the endemic Black-fronted Hummingbird, plus Orioles, Cardinals and many others. Bird books for your use at the house. Migrating Gray Whales can be seen offshore in winter. BYOB (bring your own binos).

Hiking & Biking Trails

Over the years, local residents have established a network of over 15 miles of interconnecting loop trails, through desertscapes with sculptural granite crags and wide ocean views. Mountain bike rental and guide service is available—details at the house.

Kayaking

Rental kayaks available from beach concession. Paddle your flotilla over to Mermaid Beach or to the Seal Lion Colony. Details at the House.

National Marine Park & Visitors Center

Learn about the unique wildlife that inhabits this rare tropical desert habitat, both in the water and onshore—just a short walk from the house.

Fishing

Local guides take you out past the limits of the Marine Park to fish for Tuna, Marlin, Dorado, Wahoo and more. Guides provide tackle, bait and everything you need for fishing (bring water, snacks and sunblock). These guys are good!

Decent waves can happen anytime of year, but spring and summer brings the most reliable swell, with fine surf breaks a 20-mile/40-minute drive away. Winter brings the best breezes for wind sports. BYOG (bring your own gear).
